About Us
Based in beautiful Waihi Beach and covering the Western Bay and Coromandel, Outer Spaces Landscaping is the brainchild of co-directors & life partners Adrian Whistler & Desiree Perham. Together they strive to blend natures own dramatic offerings of plant, light, water and vista to create landscapes that appeal to the senses.
Sighting works by Made Wijaya and Jamie Durie as inspiration Adrian first found his passion for plants and landscapes by way of travel in the mid nineties through Indonesia, Europe & Mexico. Over the ensuing years he has developed his knowledge of coastal, native and subtropical gardens, paving and minor construction, first with the developing of several of his own personal properties then through the conception of his first business as a landscaping & property maintenance contractor in 2001. An increasing demand for his landscaping services prompted Adrian & Desiree to concentrate their focus entirely on landscaping and so established Outer Spaces Ltd in 2007.
Desiree brings to the business a special flair for creativity and artistry. Although she is usually the first point of contact in the company and takes care of marketing, she also shares the project-design role with Adrian and likes to have a hands-on role in the implementation and construction of projects where and when she can.
In 2008 Martin Coles joined their team as a full time tradesman. His construction know-how is immense and includes 35 years experience in carpentry, stonework, masonry, concrete and sculpture. A particularly creative man, Martin also has several artistic sideline projects.
The latest addition to the team is Alana Hamilton. Locally born and raised Alana holds a diploma in both Garden Design & Horticulture and boasts over a decade's experience in this field of work. Her knowledge of plants and flare for design make her an integral part of the team and perfect for her role in assisting in the design and installation of gardens and in running the aftercare and maintenance programme.
The collaboration of these four minds has been a recipe for success for clients who want their functional objectives met with the just the right amount of creativity and aesthetics to suit their tastes and budgets. Outer Spaces do not follow standard plans, instead preferring an individual approach to each project. They offer a complete design and build service but will happily implement existing plans or plant-only projects. They are also one of the few companies that offer an after care service.
